After some research I found that there wasn’t a lot about the Company of 1st Tetney
A gentleman who belongs to the church in Tetney found some old minutes of a council meeting, this was to do with the 1st Tetney Captain requesting to use the school room for the events for the 1st Tetney Boys Brigade
The Captains name was a Mr William E Ingall, he formed the Company 1st February 1934 in the Tetney Methodist Church. It wasn’t until September 1934 that the 1st Tetney Company was gazetted. Joining Mr Ingall in the company was Reverend Harry Lee the Chaplain, Mr Harold Lewis Lieutenant and Mr Norman C Willmer also a Lieutenant. It did finally disband in January 1938.
Apparently the Company had a good number of lads, it wasn’t until Mr Ingall was a little bit late in asking permission to use the school room for their activities and found the Committee had give permission for the Women's Institute permission to use the room. Mr Ingall was none to happy.
The Letter from the Committee to Mr Ingall.
Resolution of a meeting of the Trustees of St. John’s Tetney Methodist Church. Held on November 26th 1936 regarding the use of the schoolroom by the 1st Tetney Company of the Boys Brigade. Resolved that we have received the written statement of the Boys Brigade Captain Mr W. E. Ingall, and that we express our regret that neither of the alternatives we suggested have proved acceptable to him.
We reiterate our continued interest in the welfare of that organisation , but in view of the repeated change of meeting night we had not recognised that any particular evening of the week was to be regarded as specifically and inviolably ‘the Brigade evening’. We do feel that our suggestion was a real compromise in that whilst the trustees were willing to make any arrangement short of breaking faith with the third party, the Boys Brigade, who had given no indication of their plans until the middle of November, were asked to sacrifice but one hour a month and that only if another evening were for any reason unacceptable. We are compelled to repeat that we are unwilling to ask the Women's Institute to release us from our commitment with regard to Wednesday evenings, but after a fresh prolonged consideration of the situation, again prompted by a care to be considerate and helpful, we are willing to offer any occasion when the schoolroom is free; and we now add that the schoolroom would be available to the Boys Brigade on Thursday evenings after 8.15pm, Though we recognise that this may probably be too late for the boys. We do hope Mr Ingall will see his way to accept, in the same friendly spirit in which we offer them, one or other of the suggestions we have put forward.
Mr Ingall replied to the letter and was none to happy, but there isn't a copy of his letter. This is the second reply from the Trustees.
Statement on behalf of the Trustees of the St. Johns Methodist Trustees regarding the use of the schoolroom by the 1st Tetney Company of the Boys Brigade. This meeting very sincerely regret the the action of the trustees should be interpreted as unsympathetic to the existence of a Company of the Boys Brigade in association with our church. We would stress that this is certainly not the case, but feel that it would have been helpful if the Captain could have given much earlier indication to the Chapel Steward of the opening date of the new session and of the evening desired.
Under existing circumstances the meeting feels that it cannot cancel its undertaking to allow the use of the Schoolroom to the Women's Institute as arranged.
After careful enquiry, prompted by an earnest desire to be helpful, we ask Mr Ingall to accept this compromise that the Boys Brigade shall have the use of the Schoolroom on the first Wednesday evening of every month; and that for other weeks when the use of the room is desired we offer the alternative Wednesday evening up to 8pm or Monday evening up to 9pm.
