1st Grimsby Company

Enrolled 28th May 1897. Disbanded 17th June 1913 Ebenezer Primitive Methodist Band of Hope and Young Peoples Mission.

Enrolled 13th November 1919. Disbanded 1939/40. Due to Officers in Service. Welholme Congregational Church.

Enrolled 18th October 1951. Disbanded 10th June 1960. Welholme Congregational.

First Company.


Known today as the 1st Grimsby Company, formed on 28th May 1897 based at Ebenezer Primitive Methodist Chapel Cleethorpes Road Grimsby.

This church later to house other Companies. Little is really known about the company, records only go back to 1920’s the same for other Companies that started in the late 1880’s. 1st Grimsby disbanded June 1913.

1st’s lay dormant for just over six years when it reopened on 13 November 1919 at Welholme Congregational Church, Hainton, Ave Grimsby by a well know officer, Mr. Aitken, who also was the Battalion President during his reign as Captain until March 1935 when unfortunately he passed on. Mr. Dolphin took command until the closure in 1940.

1st Grimsby

Welholme Congregational Church.

The Company never met again until it reopened on 18th October 1951 under the command of Mr. T. Collins. They opened with three Officers, 26 boys and met on Tuesdays. His command was short and Mr. K. Hayes became Captain on September 1952. The Company did well for many years entering all means of competitions.  Finally in June 1960 the church was no longer available and the Company closed.

Mrs. P. Peatfield revived it for a further 7 years in 1977 at St Nicholas Church, Wybers Wood, Great Cotes Road, Grimsby until its closure, April 1984. Unfortunately has never reopened.
